Indie Brand Collective: Black Friday Exclusives

Ooooh, something exciting is happening! The ultimate pajama lounging experience of your life. A Black Friday to elbow jab all the other Black Fridays. BLACK DAHLIA LACQUER: COMING UP ROSES


DESCRIPTION:  A metallic mauve holographic with silver holo flakies, rose gold glitter flakes and subtle red/indigo/violet shift

OPACITY:  Two coats, but one covered really well

How precious is this color?  Ugh.  As far as pinks go, it’s pretty much pink, level EXPERT.  If you’re not buying this, let’s have a chat about priorities, shall we? Cuz how can you enjoy sitting amongst all that “electricity” and “running water” without this lovely pink holo in your life? Spoiler alert: you can’t.

DESCRIPTION:  A dark gunmetal crelly with blackened green to purple duochrome shift, silvery blue and dark violet flakies and champagne/red and purple/blue shifting glitter flakes

OPACITY:  Two coats

Formula here isn’t quite as opaque as the other one, but it’s pretty dang close.  About one-and-a-half coats to be exact, except I don’t think that’s a thing.  Regardless, it went on easy and it’s full of yummy deliciousness.  Flakies, guys, FLAKIES.  And for that fact alone, we lub it lots.

BOHEMIAN POLISH:  A JOHN WATERS CHRISTMAS

DESCRIPTION:  A white crelly with pink and gold chameleon chrome flakies and strong pink shimmer

OPACITY:  Two smooth and silky coats; a Polish Mountain waiting to happen

One swipe down the nail and .. ugh.  DEAD.  This color is STINKIN’ GLORIOUS.  The shimmer! The flakies! The tongue lolling about outside my body!  Told ya it was about to get sexy in here.

My polish is a tribute to the delightfully tacky yet unrefined city I call home.  When I think of how John Waters, our Baltimore hometown hero, would celebrate Christmas, I imagine plastic white trees covered with pink flamingo Christmas lights and just glowing.  I wanted to capture that feeling.

CRYSTAL KNOCKOUT:  SHELTERED GROVE

DESCRIPTION:  A holographic gold metallic base with subtle green shift, iridescent pink flakies and gold shimmer

OPACITY:  Listen, I did 3 coats.  It only needed 2.  My brain has clearly gone away somewhere.

First time using this brand, and I was quite impressed!  This is a lovely gold and the formula was nice and easy.  A perfect shade for anytime, but it’ll make a great base for some holiday nail art.  Or maybe you just need an excuse to be festive?  These nails are begging for it, let’s just say.  They also say NAP TIME! although that might be just me.

FAIR MAIDEN POLISH:  IT’S LIT

DESCRIPTION:  A super sparkly periwinkle holographic with violet flame and red/gold/indigo shift

OPACITY:  Two coats

Formula was easy although it can get gloopy if you work it too much.  DON’T DO IT.  I mean it.  Just swipe then leave it alone.  It’ll all work out, I swear.  I mean, I go ultra perfectionist and ruin pretty much everything about 97.74658% of the time ALL so you won’t have to.  In other words, I did this mani twice.  Oops.

LEMMING LACQUER:  CRANBERRY FAIRY

DESCRIPTION:  A cranberry holographic with sparkling pink and red microflake shimmers

OPACITY:  Two coats on ring finger and three coats on the rest; the thicker your coats are the less you need (science!)

So glowy! And sexy and vampy and all sorts of drool-y.  Sad we’re still only at the beginning cuz how unattractive am I gonna be later?  (VERY.)

Thanksgiving approached so the fairy prepared / Her cranberry magic, not that sugar plum fare / She made the food delicious and atmosphere merry / Thanksgiving was good thanks to Cranberry Fairy.

This polish is inspired by the Cranberry Fairy who visits every home the night before Thanksgiving to enchant the foods with deliciousness.  Her magic is also the reason many of us pass out after enjoying the feast.  Just don’t mention her sister, The Sugar Plum Fairy.  There’s some sibling rivalry going on there.

MDJ CREATIONS:  FROST

DESCRIPTION:  A clear base with blue/violet shifting shimmer

OPACITY:  Swatch shows two coats on naked nails.  At first I tried three coats, but it got too thick and then disaster ensued. I really really suck at nails sometimes.  It was also 2am on a work night and one eye was already sleeping, sooo …

Formula is thicker than average due to all the shimmer packed in.  I mean, SO MUCH SHIMMER!  It dries slightly textured and semi-matte, but once you add top coat – HOLY MOLY!  Complete driving hazard.  Potholes come straight out of nowhere with this one.

This one is actually opaque in almost one coat, which works out perfect for those who like to do quick nails and then go be productive and accomplish some shit. So, like, opposite of me, then. Cuz I do nails with a splash of other things, like breathing with a touch of dishes thrown in so hubby won’t divorce me.

Easy to apply, medium thick formula.  There really isn’t much else to say about it cuz multichromes make me stoooopid.  Brain’s stopped holding my mouth closed and the Ugly Ecstasy Face is so dire.  If I somehow manage to stay married after this, it’ll be a dadgum miracle.  Y’all need this!

We’re jumping straight into the polish, guys, cuz all I’ve gotten accomplished today was a handful of swatches and epic Olympic-style time wasting.  Which surprisingly doesn’t get a blog written, not even a little bit.  So I’ve effectively ruined the streak I had going and now I’m behind, and basically if you have a tube of hives cream handy, I’ll take a thousand.  Ugh.  Responsibilities.

DESCRIPTION:  A bold lavender jelly with two types of chrome flakies, gold, silver and chameleon glitters and red/purple/blue shimmer

OPACITY:  Two dreamy coats, although you might do a billion on accident.  CAN’T.  STOP.  POLISHING.  You purple lovers agree.

DANCING SKELETONS

DESCRIPTION:  A dark grey crelly with gunmetal, black, silver, white and pink glitters

OPACITY:  Another two coater!  What is this voodoo magic?

FLOWER OF THE DEAD

DESCRIPTION:  A burnt orange crelly with red/violet/blue shimmer, illusion flakes and green, copper, red, gold and chameleon microglitters

OPACITY:  Blah blah blah.  You already know.

Side note:  THIS COLOR!  One of the prettiest ugly colors you’ll ever see.  I want this one on all the surfaces.  Mine AND yours.  COMPLETE RATIONAL BEHAVIOR, in case you’re curious.

DAY OF THE DEAD

DESCRIPTION:  A white crelly packed with gold, green, brown, garnet and red glitters and copper shimmer

OPACITY:  Two coats, cuz this miracle is neverending.  Perfect crelly formula too.  If you’ve been looking for a non-gloopy white, well then it’s 18,000 bottles for you.

Kinda pulls a little off white on me, but I think it’s the copper shimmer giving us a brain malfunction.  Cuz COPPER, y’all.  Also known as THE DAY WE ALL GOT A LITTLE MORE UNATTRACTIVE.  I mean, there’s only so much sexy to go around while the tongue is lolling about outside the body.

MOJITO LIMES

DESCRIPTION:  A green jelly packed with green/gold/red shimmer, chameleon microglitters and chrome flakies

OPACITY:  Two smooth and lovely coats.  And it’s GREEN.  Gah!  Excuse me while I pass on out for a second.

#TeamAddieMae Benefit Box

GUYS. Remember that time when we bought some polish and donated to a good cause all with the click of one tiny button? As in, best display of zero effort EVER?! Well, let’s do that again.  I have a BIG TIME clicking opportunity to show you today.

After visiting the emergency room, they were immediately flown to Vanderbilt Hospital in Tennessee. Tests were done and they were given the worst possible news: Adeline Mae Underhill has Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) – terminal brain cancer.

Addie was given 6-9 months. Right now, she is going through radiation treatment in hopes of shrinking the tumor and giving her a little longer to live. Radiation is their only hope! DIPG is inoperable and does not have a cure. 

This benefit box is to help raise money for the Underhill family so they can spend every second with their baby girl and not have to worry about how the bills are going to get paid. If a clinical trial became available, this donation could potentially help pay their way in.

OMG. Have you ever?! (No you have not.)  What a gorgeous, glowy, dreamy blue!  One swipe of this and no more ladylike composure for you. Tongues are lolling, everywhere. 

I did two coats, although one was almost enough. Ultra smooth application.  Hands-down perfection.  

NIGHT OWL LACQUER:  UNICORN KISSES

DESCRIPTION:  A bright purple with iridescent shimmer, silver holographic shreds and purple/blue shifting microflakies

All you purple lovers, FOCUS!  This one’s got your name written allllll over it!  And Lindsay made it, so of course we want 27 bottles.

Formula was pretty sheer so I did three coats here. Easy application, and shimmer for dayyyyys. 

PRETTY BEAUTIFUL UNLIMITED:  UNICORN MAGIC

DESCRIPTION:  A blackened purple with silver, gold and copper galaxy glitter, rainbow micro shreds, purple shimmer and a rainbow of crystal flakies

I won’t lie: I kinda wanna eat this one.  Except SOCIETY says no. Ugh. But what if – WHAT IF?! – it’s the juiciest most delicious blackberry thing ever invented and we’ve just been sitting over here being normal and whatnot?  I mean, what is the point in life if we can’t lick some nail polish every now and then?  I ask you, WHAT IS THE POINT?! 

Two coats here, but could’ve done infinity. 

COLORS BY LLAROWE:  YOU MAKE MY DAY ADDIE MAE

DESCRIPTION:  A turquoise blue crelly with unicorn pee pigment, pink/gold shimmer, chameleon flakies and sprinkle of holo

Look at this beauty! I am so drawn to this cheerful blue shade; it makes me so happy just to look at it. Then Leah Ann goes and throws some shimmer in it, and OMG, it’s noodle legs to like the trillionth degree. And look at those little flakies peeking through .. gah!  We lub it lots, oh yes we do. 

Three coats here, although two might be okay for some.  

INSPURRRATIONS NAIL POLISH:  JEREMIAH 31:13

DESCRIPTION:  A bright pink jelly with pink glitter and silver and purple holo glitters

What a glorious way to end this polish parade. Seriously y’all. If you’re still on the fence at this point, well basically the fence is no place for a lady.   Soooo .. 

I love this polish. It’s simple and pretty, elegant with a skosh of flashy.  The jelly formula is sheer so it took three coats for me, but it applied smooth and gloop-free. Can’t ask for much more than that! Well, unless it comes with a side of Leonardo, that is.

Monthly Awareness Polish Box: June 2017

Current status:  in a hotel room in Chicago.  Wrapped in a pink fluffy robe, iPad in the window, typing away à la Carrie Bradshaw and feeling super fancy.  Hair piled on top of my head, drinking Voss water out of a wine glass, and a gorgeous view of skyscrapers is all around me.  OMG, am I in a movie?  Let’s see, three empty Starbucks cups, a no-pants situation in progress, and Leonardo is nowhere to be found.  Still wearing orthopedic shoes and skinny is taking its damn sweet time.  I mean, I caught a view of my butt in a the Bathroom of a Thousand Mirrors, and now I’m just gonna sit here and cry for the next 37 years.

In other words, NOPE.  Just real life in all it’s forgot to shave my legs glory.  Weeeeee!

Well, isn’t that one of the prettiest things you ever saw?  Seen?  You’ve ever seen?  Ugh.  One can’t grammar at a time like this.  The point is, you lub it lots.  Now let’s focus; there’s serious business up ahead.

First up is from Alter Ego:

This is Look Past the Sun, a dark yellow jelly with holographic red and black fine glitter.  It’s a pretty sheer one; my swatch is three coats and you can still see my nail line.  But it’s quite a unique shade – I don’t have a single one like it – and after roughly 1500 polishes up on my shelves at this point, that’s some good odds.  So, there may be a lottery ticket EXTRAVAGANZA! later, which makes sense considering the sheer amount of normal behavior on display over here.  Superhuman, to say the least.

Next up is from Pretty Beautiful Unlimited:

This is Overcoming Nightmares, a medium red holographic with lavender shimmer, silver and pink glitters and micro shreds, blue to purple shifting micro glitters, and a smattering of crystal chameleon flakes.  Whyyyyy, that’s a whole lot of pretty all in one place!  Plus magic, plus happiness.  If it came with a side of Starbucks, no one’s surprised.  PERFECTION, is what I’m saying.

Now here’s one from Darling Diva Polish:

This is I’m a Survivor, a topper loaded with Pegasus pee, a light sprinkling of holo, color shifting glitters and holo flakes.  My swatch shows it not as a topper, cuz I don’t plan things very well.  Instead, I applied three coats over naked nails, and while it’s still kind of sheer, the ethereal quality of it is jaw droppingly stunning.  Like, a puddle of goo scenario is happening next, I’m quite certain.

From Night Owl Lacquer:

This is Not All Wounds are Visible, a luscious teal with bright purple shimmer, purple to blue shifting iridescent shreds and a nice dose of scattered holo.  GUYS.  It’s time to roll the couches over cuz it’s super pass-out-y in about 2.5 seconds.  Bring the smelling salts and one of those cute boys holding a leaf fan.  Cuz you can’t just toss in a purple and blue dreamboat and then expect anything ladylike to happen next.  Nope, it’s sweaty to, like, the trillionth degree.

Everything Lindsay makes is perfection.  I dare you to determine otherwise.

Next up is from Sassy Pants Polish:

This is Don’t Trigger Me, a bright hot pink jelly with assorted iridescent glitters and white holographic microglitters with a blue shimmer.  And aside from all that, I’ll just be over here reattaching my jaw to my face about 18,000 times.  BRB.

My eyes, my eyes!  That blue shimmer is so glowy and those glitters give me a severe case of the GRABBY FINGERS.  At minimum.

Doh!  How will I ever remain upright again?

Lastly, from O-My Jewels:

This is There But Not, a creamy pale blue with holographic sparkly microglitter.  All you blue lovers, pay attention!  This one has your name written alllllll over it.  (Seriously.  I checked.)  Walking out of this blog with approximately 27 bottles of this beauty in your cart?   Sounds about right.  Cuz you don’t get to CRAZY NAIL LADY by being rational, let’s just say.

Monthly Awareness Polish Box: May 2017

It’s May 1st guys, so y’all know what that means:  winter is just around the corner.  Ugh.

How did we get here so fast?  Why does fall and winter take lightyears with eons and eternities on top, but spring and summer is gone in the blink of an eye?  Wasn’t it just yesterday when I was sitting on my couch covered in sweatpants and a minimum of 18,000 blankets, wondering why I’m not one of those cute girls wearing Uggs and holding a latte?  I mean, does this world really need someone to do the speed walking across parking lots saying shit shit shit all the way to the door?  Certainly I could’ve excelled in other less unattractive ways.  I’m not even that picky about it.  I can be adorable in a scarf, falling in a pile of leaves, you know, if all the Uggs are taken.  Blah. 

And now May is here ruining everything with it’s sheer proximity to fall.  Five months left.  FIVE MONTHS!  I’m going to waste my summer googling how to stay alive in an ice storm, I just know it.  Although being prepared is important.  What’re you gonna do when there’s a surprise Leonardo sighting and there’s no wedding dress in your car?  Hmmm?!

Rational behavior is for other people.  Clearly, someone needs to save me from me.

See, already you’re excited.  SIMMER DOWN CRAZY.  We just got started.  How we gonna make it to the end of this blog if we’re already big puddles of goo?  Get your focus faces on.  This is some serious business up ahead.

First up is O-My Jewels:

This is Act F.A.S.T., a creamy smooth red with a dash of matte white multi sized glitters.  My swatch shows ONE COAT, which I found quite amazing.  You might need two, but I was pretty satisfied with this cuz then I had plenty of time to go make myself useful.  I mean, Dancing with the Stars doesn’t just watch itself, ya know?

The glitters here did settle pretty well in the bottom of the bottle, but they floated right back up with a vigorous shake.  I love how you get a gentle dose of them on the nail.  It’s not GLITTER! with jazz hands, but more just glitter with like, some sweatpants on.  Nice and easy is what I’m saying.

Next up is Alter Ego:

This is Small Steps Big Rewards, a golden olive green with bronze micro flakies, and OMG there is such an unattractive drool situation in progress right now.  Like, hubby just needs to look away sometimes, cuz there’s only so much sexy to go around while your tongue is lolling about outside your body.  27 bottles, in the cart they go!

This is Fighting Back, a peacock turquoise green with silver holo microglitters, teal to blue iridescent shifting glitter, blue micro shreds and flakies and blue to aqua to violet color shifting flakies.  That’s a lot of goodies!  How this polish doesn’t cost a billion dollars is beyond alllll the comprehensions.

Plus, all that WITH glow on top?  If there was ever a time for smelling salts, now would be it.

From NeVerMind Polish:

This is Picking Up the Pieces, a hot pink with a touch of shimmer and blue/purple/red chameleon flakies. Excuse me while I attach my jaw back on my face.  GAH!  If this somehow doesn’t end up on all the surfaces, I don’t understand the world we live in. Anyone in the mood for a ridiculous display of pretty cuz DUMB QUESTION doesn’t even begin to describe this scenario.  Flakies, everywhere.  You have no other choice, now do you?

I’d lick this cuz I’m well aware I have a problem:

Although I won’t, cuz POISON.  And society, they are so judgy.

Next is from PoSHlish:

This is Survivor, a shimmery lilac pearl with a sea foam green undertone.  I’m seriously about to fall apart cuz the noodle legs are everywhere.  The fact I’m still upright is perseverance at superhuman levels.  The shimmer got me.  It got me good, guys.  And the formula was such a dang dream.  Nice and fluid, all glide-y and smooth.  I about went to Polish Mountain with it, but I gave up after three coats.  I’m not good at goals, let’s just say.  However, it would be a good one if the mood ever strikes.  And you have nothing to do for the next 18 years.

Will the drool ever end?

NO.

Lastly, from Sassy Pants Polish:

This is Know the Signs, a royal navy blue holographic with black holo and opal iridescent glitters and gold shimmers.  What a way to end this thing!  It’s a noodle leg epidemic and there is no cure.  (Oh well.)  Who else looks a dadgum mess?  Ugly Ecstasy Face is having a moment, clearly.  If all six of these beauties aren’t in your cart in about 2.5 seconds, we need to have a chat about decisions and how to make them.
