Different Dimension + Cupcake Polish + Crystal’s Charity Lacquers: Duos for the Houston SPCA

Standard

Someone done jacked with my tv and now there’s only one hour of Full House instead of two, so how all this swatching’s getting done then, we’ll never freaking know.  Cuz I have a routine, a tradition, and now what?  Just sit here in SILENCE painting nails like a crazy person?  Ugh.  Me and Nickelodeon’s about to have words, I guarantee.  Although I’m not much of a scrapper, so most likely it’ll just be a symbolic recap of me in the 6th grade slapping some girl in the ear.

But aside from all that, FOR ONE, I’m an extremely cool person, and TWO, Crystal’s Charity Lacquers is back once again and it’s time to hoard some polish! BOOM.

Each month or so, Crystal’s Charity Lacquers chooses a charity and teams up with indie brands to create exclusive polishes to sell and help raise funds for the cause. This round, she has chosen Missi from Different Dimension, Sara from Cupcake Polish and Lindsey from Tonic Polish to release some pretties to benefit the Houston SPCA

So get off your no-buys, ladies! ANOTHER TOTAL LEGIT JUSTIFICATION-type scenario just fell into your lap like no big deal. Lesssss go!

We have chosen the Houston SPCA because of the tireless work they have put into protecting and rescuing the animals in Houston who were affected by Hurricane Harvey. The Houston SPCA is also a no kill shelter.  I will not support a shelter who puts time limits on an animal finding their perfect forever home.  Their mission is to protect and enhance the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals.

Throughout the disaster of Hurricane Harvey, the Houston SPCA have been on the front lines, doing everything they can to help the animals and for that, we thank them.

— Crystal Weber, Crystal’s Charity Lacquers

Cupcake Polish + Top Shelf Lacquer + Crystal’s Charity Lacquers: Quad for the SPCA

Standard

After an evening full of couch lounging and spending an extraordinary amount of time watching my cat have a fight with a string tie from one of my shirts, suddenly it is after midnight and YET AGAIN now is the time to write a blog.  Seriously guys, I might never go to bed again.  Cuz FOR SOME REASON, the blog don’t write itself and there’s roughly 7,397 left to do.  Still.  I’m not very good at goals, let’s just say.

And naturally there’s a POLISH EMERGENCY! in our midst. So we’re gonna zip through the blog real quick before I tell you things after the things are no longer the things.  Clearly, I make perfect sense when my brain is half asleep.  But aside from all that, Crystal’s Charity Lacquers is back again and it’s time to hoard some polish! BOOM.

Each month or so, Crystal’s Charity Lacquers chooses a charity and teams up with indie brands to create exclusive polishes to sell and help raise funds for the cause. This round, she has chosen Sara from Cupcake Polish and Amy from Top Shelf Lacquer to release some pretties to benefit the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, otherwise known as the SPCA.

So get off your no-buys, ladies! A TOTAL LEGIT JUSTIFICATION-type scenario just fell into your lap like no big deal. Lesssss go!

A charity for animals is one of the easiest causes to donate to.  Cuz we all love animals, cats and dogs and little baby pandas trapped in tiny bubble cocoons.  And it doesn’t matter how much hard work they are (in a poop scooping way, mostly) or the fact a piece of cat hair literally just flew into my wet manicure, I still want to kiss my fur baby straight in the mouth even though he probably licked his own butt approximately 2.5 seconds ago.  Not sure that’s an admirable quality or what this says about me as a person, but that is beside the point.

As previously mentioned, there are two indie brands helping out this round, and I was lucky enough to bring you swatches of both this time.  The whole shebang, y’all!  If you’re thinking overachieve-y best blogger ever, well, you’d be about 97.48676% correct.

Here’s a brief rundown of all the goodies, then I’ll meet you at the bottom.  And then prepare to spend some money, cuz there’s no way you’re getting out of this blog without 27,000 bottles in the cart.  Rational behavior?  NOT TODAY!

CUPCAKE POLISH DUO

Spoiler alert:  FLAKIES!  Wallets are officially flying out of purses, everywhere.

MAKE TODAY PAWSOME

DESCRIPTION:  An emerald green holographic with pink/copper/green/gold color shifting metallic flakies

OPACITY:  Two coats plus top coat

Also, did I mention this is green?  Gah!  The effort to stay upright at the moment is a dire situation indeed.

PAWS AND SHARE THE LOVE

DESCRIPTION:  A mulberry purple holographic with copper/red/gold color shifting metallic flakies

OPACITY:  Again with the two coats

I’m loving how the flakies look like little glowy sparks of fire.  It’s comfy and cozy and happiness times a billion.  Did someone just walk in here and hand me a basket full of kitties?  Might as well have.

So if all that wasn’t enough to get you tossing polish in the cart all willy nilly, we’ll just go ahead and make your best day ever even best-i-er.  Cuz look what else you’re buying:

TOP SHELF LACQUER DUO

Dammmmmit.  I was trying to be a lady all day long, and now everything is ruined.  Cuz it’s hard to look classy while running for your drool bucket.

BLOODHOUND MARY

DESCRIPTION:  A deep red polish filled with glowing glass fleck and a subtle pink to orange shift

OPACITY:  Two smooth and yummy coats

This polish is ridiculously pretty.  More proof below:

THE BULLDOG SMASH

DESCRIPTION:  A medium grey with blue shimmer and red/orange/pink/yellow color shifting flakies

OPACITY:  Two amazing coats

Y’all know I have issues with Fall, simply because of its unfortunate proximity to the hell that is Winter.  But it’s polishes like this, ones that look like wet leaves on pavement or smoldering ashes in a bonfire, that makes me think that Fall is the best season there is.  Just for half a second, though, but still.

And now, we SWOON.  You guys.  Get on this like stat.

THE ROUND UP

Pre-sale for these charity polishes has already started, cuz I am a DADGUM PROFESSIONAL, in case you are curious.  Regardless, there is time still left, so if bonus points are coming, well that sounds about right.  Last day to purchase is August 27 so make sure you go NOW, or at the very least, 5 seconds from now.

Cost for the Cupcake Polish colors is $13 and Top Shelf Lacquer’s is $12.  A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the SPCA, which makes this hoarding problem well and truly worth it.  Polishes are available now in each respective maker’s site, so here are the linkies all typed and ready to go:

Cupcake Polish

Top Shelf Lacquer

Then while you’re in a clicking mood, go ahead and join the Crystal’s Charity Lacquers Facebook group so you can get inside scoop on future donations, brand collaborations, and polish sneak peeks. DO IT. I mean it. Click here.

And now we’re done!  I’m headed to bed and you’re headed for your checkbook.  Cuz that’s how this thing works. Weeeee!

BLUSH Lacquers + Crystal’s Charity Lacquers: Women’s Foundation Duo

Standard

Yesterday was the first day of summer, the longest day of the year.  Could be a cause for celebration, as I know there’s some girl out there shining up the Uggs and marking days off til she can pumpkin all the things.  NOT THIS LADY.  The beginning of summer means days will continually get one minute shorter until suddenly we are in the bowels of winter, and OMG, the hives are already lurking.

Ugh. Why do I torture myself by looking so far ahead?  I mean, it’s not like every day until then isn’t going to be at least 90-degrees, and I’m bound to complain mercilessly about each one of them anyway.  Cuz y’all know I don’t sweat like a lady, and regardless how terrible the word moist is, there’s really no other way to describe the situation.  Ew.

HOWEVER, I feel like some effort today.  Did y’all just scroll to the top to see what blog you were reading? I know, me too.  But it’s hard to be grumpy when good things are happening.  Cuz Crystal’s Charity Lacquers is back again and it’s time to hoard some polish!  BOOM.

Each month or so, Crystal’s Charity Lacquers chooses a charity and teams up with indie brands to create exclusive polishes to sell and help raise funds for the cause. This round, she has chosen Victoria from BLUSH Lacquers and Heather from Heather’s Hues to release some pretties to benefit the Women’s Foundation.

So get off your no-buys, ladies! A TOTAL LEGIT JUSTIFICATION-type scenario just fell into your lap like no big deal.  Lesssss go!

• SUPER DUPER PRESS SAMPLES •

Our charity this month is the Women’s Foundation. The Women’s Foundation uses funds that are raised to address areas of concern for women: stopping violence against women, ending poverty, empowering women and ending human trafficking.

The Women’s Foundation uses money raised to help fund emergency shelters and programs to help survivors of abuse and sex trafficking rebuild their lives. They fund life-changing programs designed especially for women to help women move out of poverty. Through these unique programs, women can learn a skilled trade, start a small business or gain work experience.

The Women’s Foundation also supports girls confidence by funding dynamic programs that engage the body, mind and spirit. They offer mentorship programs and also have programs that target at-risk girls, allowing them to explore science and technology, play sports, learn critical thinking or take on leadership roles, all in a supportive all-girl environment. These are all just a brief example of all the wonderful work this charity does. The Women’s Foundation’s mission is to help women and girls move out of violence, out of poverty and into confidence.

— Crystal Weber, Crystal’s Charity Lacquers

Well, when you put it that way … 2,477 bottles, stat.  I can’t think of a better way to spend some money today.  Maybe slightly more rationally, but then again, no one does Crazy Nail Lady quite like you.

As previously mentioned, there are two indie brands helping out this round. I only have swatches of the BLUSH Lacquers offering, but there is a link down below to another blog where you can view the swatches for Heather’s Hues.  Seriously, is there an award coming?  Cuz someone is being awfully overachieve-y today.

(Me, to be clear. )

First up is #girlpowered:

This one is a soft baby pink with peach tones and golden shimmer.  It’s such a pretty, delicate shade.  The gold glowing through gives me a case of the Grabby Fingers, I swear it.  Three coats of YUM, plus easy to apply formula, plus the most amazing brush applicator on the DADGUM PLANET!  In other words, you’re buying this.

Another angle, cuz NERD:

And now, a macro EXTRAVAGANZA!

Welp, we are officially pass-out-y.  Bring on the smelling salts!  And Leonardo, just in case.

The other half of the duo is Hear Me Roar:

This one is a magenta linear holographic with pink holo glitters, and OMG, the sparkle, the bling, the ladylike composure just OUT THE FREAKING WINDOW.  I got two smooth coats out of this one, although I could’ve done a billion cuz polishes like this make me completely not normal.  But in a very good way.  Polish Mountain, here we come!  One coat .. two coats .. th re e coa. Ts … blah, never mind.  I’ve already done two efforts today; at this point, pajamas is all that’s left.

Oh, but how about one more angle?  You know, for extra convincing.

Lastly, the macros.  Otherwise known as the prelude to the Noodle Leg Epidemic that is happening next:

Okay, fiiiiiine.  Some holo action first:

And now we’re all just unattractive puddles of goo.  Bye bye checkbook!

The round up:

In addition to this lovely duo, Heather’s Hues has a one too!  First, there’s Queen of the Castle – a soft lavender with gold shimmer, gold holo and microflakies. Then there’s BElieve in YOUrself, a light teal metallic holo with pink/violet duochrome shinmer.  I’m pretty sure you want these too, but for the lack of proof via 18,000 Excel spreadsheets and a science experiment, go check out Lacquered Mama’s review and see for yourself.  Click here!

Pre-sale for these starts Saturday, June 24 and will run until Sunday, July 9.  That’s like two weeks of panic, so be sure to set alarms so you don’t miss out.  Cuz while the polish is bueno to like the trillionth degree, it’s the charity that makes it all worthwhile.  Get on it, boo boos!

Cost for the BLUSH Lacquers polishes will be $11.75 for #girlpowered and $12.25 for Hear Me Roar. At the time of this writing, I do not have the cost for the Heather’s Hues duo, but I will update once I get it.  Polishes will be available at each respective makers’ site, and I will leave links below for you cuz I have a random burst of energy today and might as well burn a few calories to aid the skinny.

BLUSH Lacquers – click here

Heather’s Hues – click here

That’s officially three efforts for the day in case you don’t math well.  Seriously, are we in the right blog?  I’m so var var confused.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Women’s Foundation through the CanadianWomen.org website.  Be sure to give it a read.  Then while you’re in a clicking mood, go ahead and join the Crystal’s Charity Lacquers Facebook group so you can get inside scoop on future donations, brand collaborations, and polish sneak peeks. DO IT. I mean it. Click here.

Okay, gang, I’m off to do some quick polishing that will most likely result in a four hour swatch fest and then subsequent napping at my desk tomorrow.  Happy Almost Friday!

Later, loves!

Different Dimension + Crystal’s Charity Lacquers: Trio for MS Society

Standard

You know how sometimes when there is a surprise Leonardo sighting and you realize all those years of honing your planning skills is about to come in real handy considering the amount of wedding dress happening in the trunk of your car at that very moment, and then you’re like, GO ME! for having the best day ever?

Well, guess who’s about to have another one just tossed in their lap like no big deal?  (You, to be clear.)  Although with slightly less Leonardo, but you’re gonna love it nonetheless.  Cuz Crystal’s Charity Lacquers is back y’all and it’s time to hoard some polish!

Each month or so, Crystal’s Charity Lacquers chooses a charity and teams up with indie brands to create exclusive polishes to sell and help raise funds for the cause.  For May, she chose Missi from Different Dimension and Sarah and Adrienne, the girls from Fair Maiden Polish, to release some pretties to benefit the MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Society.

So get off your no-buys, ladies!  TOTAL LEGIT JUSTIFICATION doesn’t even begin to describe this scenario.

• SUPER DUPER PRESS SAMPLES •

Our charity this month is the MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Society. This is a charity that is very close to my heart as my mom has MS and has battled the disease for more than 30 years. I have grown up watching this illness slowly (and sometimes quickly) take away aspects of life that most of us take for granted. The ability to stand, to walk, to feed yourself. The ability to scratch an itch. To push your hair out of your eyes. These are just a small sample of day to day activities that most of us take for granted that MS has taken from my mom.

Multiple Sclerosis is often referred to as the snowflake disease; it affects no two people exactly alike. Because of this, treatment is often difficult and costly. The MS Society helps ease some of the burden to those diagnosed with MS through financial, emotional and research support. When I was a child, people would often ask me what was wrong with my Mom. Back then, it was rare that the person asking would have heard of MS. Now, the response is too often, “Oh yeah, my friend/relative has that.”  MS is on the rise and we need to fight back!!

— Crystal Weber, Crystal’s Charity Lacquers

Well, of course we’re doing this.  In fact, we’re buying 1257 bottles, at the minimum.  Cuz we don’t get to Crazy Nail Lady by being normal, and rational behavior is for other people.  In the cart they go!

As previously mentioned, there are two indie brands helping out this round.  I only have swatches of the Different Dimension offering, but there is a link down below to another blog where you can view the swatches for Fair Maiden Polish.  Cuz who is the best, most thorough blogger in all the land?  I’m not even telling cuz you already know.

(Okay, it’s me.  I got scared you weren’t sure.)

First up is No MS’ing Around:

This is a light mint green linear holographic, and it’s my favorite of the bunch.  It has the most perfect springtime quality to it and it looks so gorgeous on the nail.  There may be some random hand modeling scenarios later with this one.  Cuz running your fingers languidly over toasters and clock radios just happens sometimes whether you like it or not.

Under the lamps:

Even better.  Seriously, you’re buying this.  Otherwise, we need to have a chat about decisions and how to make them.

Macro time!

Welp, it’s about to get super pass-out-y in here, I think.

Next up is Kicking Multiple Scleros-ass:

This is a hot coral pink linear holographic with added shimmers.  How much do you love it?!  It’s basically neon (YUM), and if you have sad white sausages like me, you’re gonna love how pretty this makes your fingers look. Although between the time I did the green mani and this one, I stubbed my ring fingernail and the Universe took a chunk out. Well, OF COURSE IT DID. Cuz tossing in a bit of hobo before I go off tooting my own horn sounds about right. Ugh.

Under the lamps, she’s a hot little mama:

Gracious. I’ll take a billion.

Macros, in case you’re on the fence:

Cuz the fence is no place for a lady.

Lastly, here’s dreaMS:

This one is a lightened teal blue linear holographic with added shimmers. A spectacular shade of blue, lemme just say. Even though the notch in my fingernail now officially has its jazz hands on, it’s still a pretty dang good mani. I’m about 2.5 seconds away from sticking my fingers in people’s faces, but SOCIETY says no.  Surprisingly, strangers don’t wanna look at mah nails! quite as much as expected.  Society is zero fun sometimes.

Under the lamps, it gets ridiculous:

An insane display of pretty:

It glows! And we lub it so much.

The round up:

In addition to this lovely trio, Fair Maiden Polish has a single shade up for grabs as well.  Their offering is called Keep S’Myelin’, a magenta holo polish with a violet flame and shifting blue/green chrome flake.  Even without pictures, I know I want 27 back-ups of that one.  However, you can go check out Becky from Naked Without Polish for official swatches, in case you don’t toss polish in your cart all willy nilly like me.  Click here!

Pre-order for these starts tomorrow, May 12 at 3pm PST (or 6pm EST) and will run until Friday, May 26 only.  That’s two tiny weeks of POLISH EMERGENCY! so make sure you get your priorities in order.  Once time is up, the polish is gone forever, and it’ll be a sad state of affairs if you miss it.

Cost for the Different Dimension polishes are $14 each and the Fair Maiden one will be $11.  To purchase, visit each respective makers’ site.  And so you don’t have to figure any of this out for yourself, here’s the links all laid out so nice and pretty:

Different Dimension – click here

Fair Maiden Polish – click here

Cuz BEST BLOGGER EVER, that’s why.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the MS Society through Crystal’s MS Walk fundraising link.  To read more, click here.

Okay, gang.  That’s a lot of clicking.  Time for pajamas and some lounging on couches cuz you’ve had a hard day.  Me too, though, cuz this blog just don’t write itself for some reason. After 18 years of typing and a skosh of carpal tunnel setting in, if there’s a nap coming soon, that’d be great.

Later, Loves!

Tonic Polish + Crystal’s Charity Lacquers: Project Aloha

Standard

GUYS.  I have something extra special for you today that you’re just gonna love.  Someone has figured out a way to combine your need to hoard all the polish, PLUS donate to a very good cause.  Did you just do an ultra dramatic, overly exaggerated gasp of surprise?  ME TOO!  Prepare to breeze through life now that all your dreams are about to come true.  You get pajamas, and you get pajamas, and YOU get pajamas … Happy days ahead for everyone.  Here’s the scoop:

Crystal’s Charity Lacquers is an organization that started fundraising with nail polish close to 2 years ago.  Each month or so, Crystal chooses a charity and teams up with indie brands to create exclusive polishes to sell and help raise funds for the cause.  For March, she chose the amazing Lindsey with Tonic Polish and Joy with Joy Lacquer to release a duo to benefit the Hawaiian Humane Society.

So back the freak off, boyfriends, girlfriends, Universe and whatnot who says you don’t need another purple nail polish, cuz this right here is a total legit justification.

Crystal decided on the Hawaiian Humane Society for this month as it holds a very special place in her heart.  At the very bottom of this post is a statement in Crystal’s own words (with pictures!), and I encourage everyone to read it.  After all, it took me 18 years minimum to copy and paste that whole thing.  Whew!

As mentioned up top, there is a duo up for grabs.  I only have swatches of the Tonic Polish offering, but there is a link down below to another blog where you can view the swatches for Joy Lacquer.  Who’s the best, most thorough, OCD blogger in all the land? (ME.  The answer to that question is always ME.  Write it down in a notebook in case there’s a quiz.)

OMG.  Shut up, brain.  Let’s talk polish:

This is Project Aloha, a sunset mauve holo multichrome that shifts to peach and sandy gold with orange to green shifting iridescent glitters.  And if you don’t think this looks exactly like a sunset, then I am var var concerned about your brain.  Lindsey nailed it, once again, as always.  I mean, did we expect anything less?  NO. WE. DID. NOT.

Under the lamps, a lot of the mauve came out, but it looks very purple on me.  Not that I’m complaining.  Mauve, purple.  Potato, french fries.  It’s all good.

Close up of those iridescent glitters that I’ve decided is my most favorite thing in the whole world.  Well, after Leonardo DiCaprio in my living room handing me a Starbucks.  As happens from time to time.

More macros cuz we haven’t drooled enough today.  Well, technically I have, but I’m not normal, I’m quite aware.  If you see me and somehow I’m not in the midst of a suuuuuper unattractive drooling type scenario, just assume I’ve been kidnapped cuz that seems more likely.

I reallllllllllly love nail polish, is what I’m saying.

Smelling salts would come in handy right about now.  I feel a fainting episode is imminent.   Quick!  Roll a couch over just in case.

Lastly, once again (don’t forget), this is a charity duo and so Joy Lacquer has a polish too!  Their offering is Mau Loa Ohana, a bright pink with orange chrome shift. Check out my girl, Elena, from Nail Experiments for swatches. Click here to see!

Pre-order for these starts on March 17 and runs through March 31st.  Cost is $12 each and will be available to purchase at each respective maker’s site.  To make it easy for you (and cuz BEST BLOGGER EVER), here are the links:

Tonic Polish – click here

Joy Lacquer – click here

If you’d like to get the inside scoop on future donations and brand collaborations, join Crystal’s Facebook group by clicking here.  DO IT.  I mean it.

Crystal will be making the donation to the Hawaiian Humane Society in person around April 7th. I’d soooo be on board with that if I could guarantee to hubby (complete with signed waiver, blood sample, and 18 lock-tight provisions and clauses) that I won’t bring home a suitcase full of kitties. Which is nigh on impossible, so guess I’ll stay home and wear pajamas all day instead.  Not as fun, but pretty close.

Later, loves!

Background on Crystal’s Charity Lacquers:

“I’ve been involved in fundraising for a number of years now, and always struggled to raise funds. In April 2015, I decided to take a new approach and started asking some of my favourite brands if they would be willing to create custom polishes for me to give away in a raffle style draw. After getting a number of brands on board, we launched our first campaign, a double giveaway benefiting the SPCA and the Terry Fox Foundation for cancer research. That first campaign wrapped up in September 2015 and was more successful that I ever could have dreamed. In order to keep momentum going between giveaways, we introduced our limited edition collaboration sales. That first sale was for the Hawaiian Humane Society so we’ve come a bit full circle with this sale.”

“The Hawaiian Humane Society is a cause very close to my heart. I am a huge animal lover, so helping animals is something I always strive to do. During a trip to Oahu in March 2015, the search for a larger sized geocache brought me to the Hawaiian Humane Society grounds. The geocache owner had received permission to hide the geocache in the middle of the shelter grounds, and upon first arrival, I was stunned by the well thought out shelter and their beautiful grounds. We found the cache and then I couldn’t resist saying hello to the animals. The shelter workers were friendly and offered us treats to give to the animals and told us that we could sign a dog out to walk around or play in one of the play areas. This was like no shelter I’d been to before. You could feel the love and see how the shelter was built with the animals’ happiness in mind. We signed out a sweet pup named Spot and took him for a run in the play area. Once he was tired, we snuggled on a bench and fed him some treats.”

“And then there was Lily. This girl stole my heart and cemented my love for this shelter. Lily was an amazing dog who came in as a stray. She had endless energy and even knew some tricks. When you offered her a treat, she would sit up on her hind legs and put her front paws together like she was praying. She was amazing! But she was a special girl, who needed a special human to give her the forever home she needed. She had been adopted and returned to the shelter already. As a Canadian, we often hear the horror stories of American kill shelters. After spending time with Lily, I nervously, and with tears in my eyes, approached one of the shelter staff and asked them about their policies. I was relieved to hear that the Hawaiian Humane Society does not put time limits on the animals to find their forever homes. This is something that is extremely important to me.”

“I eventually pulled myself away from the animals and we left. But I’ve never forgotten Lily. It took a year and two failed adoptions before this beautiful, silly girl finally found her forever home and I am so grateful to the Hawaiian Humane Society for not giving up on her.”

“Since that trip, I have supported the Hawaiian Humane Society through donations and gifts. We returned to the island in January, 2016 and visited once again with a large donation of food, toys and other supplies needed by the shelter. They were mid renovation during that visit and have recently completed a complete overhaul of the facilities. The Hawaiian Humane Society is also Oahu’s only open admissions shelter. They are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for people to surrender their animals. They believe there must be a place where all animals are welcome. This means that they will also accept illegal animals with no questions asked and work to save them through relocation to the mainland.
