Celestial Cosmetics: Back to the 80s Collection

I had a dream about a spreadsheet last night if that gives you any indication on what I’ve been doing for the past 7 days.  GUYS.  I’ve been so busy at work doing actual work-related things, walking from my office to other offices, being productive and efficient and the complete opposite of lounge-y, that I damn near don’t recognize myself anymore.  I mean, I’m not as skinny as you might expect, what with all the steps I’ve been putting on my fitness app, but my feet aren’t up on my desk AT ALL and I’m like, Who is this person?!, cuz the real me has clearly been kidnapped.

On the bright side, though, I love my job, I love the spreadsheets and I love big stacks of paperwork to do – and I’m not just saying that in case my boss is reading.  I mean, as a kid, you don’t spend your allowance on office supplies just to grow up and somehow manage NOT to be a little bit of a nerd, ya know?  Although if my boss is reading, I like Starbucks and Employee of the Month awards, just in case.

On the downside, all this efforting has made me one tired blogger, and not much gets done after pajamas.  Not even dishes or cat poop, much to the dismay of my husband, King of the Stink Eye.  So in an attempt to stay married, here I am, doing stuff and writing a blog and trying to be normal all in one day.  Certainly qualifies for bonus points if you want my opinion.

Oh but hey!  I’ve got neons.  In winter.  Our day has officially gotten about a trillion times better.  Take a look at these stunning things from Celestial Cosmetics

Oooooh! You want this, oh yes you do.

This is the Back to the 80s collection, a set of 8 neon holographics in glorious rainbow colors.  Celestial Cosmetics is based in Australia where it is currently summer and neons abound.  Here, we are in the bowels of winter where the sun doesn’t shine for eons, and I can’t think of any truer, more appropriate time for neons.  Cuz if I can’t have warmth and sun and grass that isn’t brown and crunchy, lemme have some neon polish at the very least.  Nicki came through for us like we knew she would.

Quick rundown of the colors, then I’ll meet ya at the bottom.  Enjoy!

BIG HAIR, DON’T CARE

DESCRIPTION: A neon pink scattered holographic

OPACITY: Three coats plus glossy top coat

ATARI ADVENTURE

DESCRIPTION: The official description is a neon red scattered holographic but this pulls completely orange on me. In fact, I didn’t see red in it at all. But what do I know really? This blog is full of all sorts of uselessness; it may be obviously red to everyone but me.  However, it also looks like Cheetos, so we’ll take a thousand bottles.

OPACITY: Three coats plus glossy top coat

HIPPOS ARE HUNGRY

DESCRIPTION: A neon yellow-orange scattered holographic; basically a bottle full of happiness.  OMG!

OPACITY: Three coats plus glossy top coat

RUBIK’S RESENTMENT

DESCRIPTION: A neon yellow-green scattered holographic; leans more green than yellow

OPACITY: Three coats plus glossy top coat

RUN, DON’T WALKMAN

DESCRIPTION: A neon green scattered holographic

OPACITY: Three coats plus glossy top coat

SUNGLASSES AT NIGHT

DESCRIPTION: A neon teal scattered holographic

OPACITY: Three coats plus glossy top coat

There is a disclaimer on this one. Apparently after travel, this polish forms tiny pigment particles inside the bottle. For that reason, it has been discounted (price details below). However, I noticed ZERO particles when I did my swatch soooo .. maybe not all bottles were affected. Or maybe! – ONCE AGAIN – my blog is full of uselessness.

CARE BEAR CUDDLES

DESCRIPTION: A neon blue scattered holographic

OPACITY: Three coats plus glossy top coat

MIND THAT MULLET

DESCRIPTION: A neon violet scattered holographic

OPACITY: Two coats for this one

THE ROUND UP

Formulas on these were pretty consisent across the board.  They were somewhat sheer on the first coat but built up nicely.  Some people may be okay with two coats, but I thought three coats gave the best color payout.  Plus, those invisible naked spots that only I can see .. well, it’s not the most ideal superpower but I suppose I’ll take it.  Since eating Cheetos while staying skinny seems to be taken.  Hmmmmpf.  Regardless, three coats for safety, y’all!   That is the point of what I’m saying.

Except the purple one.  Two coats is okay for the purple one.  It seemed slightly thicker than the rest, although maybe it’s just due to the dark pigment.  Surprisingly I’m not a rocket scientist even though this blog would have you thinking otherwise.  This blog is AMAZING in case you didn’t know.

Now for the good stuff.  This collection is available now so you’re all set for shopping.  You were just sitting around wearing sweatpants and doing nothing anyway.  Let’s make ourselves useful, shall we?  WE SHALL!

Retail price for each bottle is $11 USD except for Sunglasses at Night, which is discounted to $6 USD due to the pigment particles.  Again, I didn’t notice an issue so it may not even be a big deal.  However, Nicki discounted it anyway as she is a professional and about 27 levels of classy lady.  We lub her.

Okay gang.  Get to shoppin’ as now is not the time to be lounge-y.  These polishes have been available for about a week now and I’m quite certain they’re on the verge of selling out within the next 2.5 seconds.  I mean, prolly.  Or maybe not.  Who knows?  It’s a crapshoot, honestly.  But who’s taking risks with nail polish and happiness?  NOT A DADGUM ONE OF YOU, that’s who.

Later, loves!

  1. This is a neon collection I can get behind! It’s refreshing to see a collection that is not just straight-up creams and is actually full of bright colors! Atari Adventure looks blinding!!!

  2. Ooh, I like these, holo neon is something I need in my life now. I’d want all of them based on the names alone! Atari Adventure reminds me of a colo we had when I worked at a fashion store called Firey Red. No one knew why it was considered a red.

  3. I love these! I am always obsessed with neons, but those greens are calling my name. I think maybe I am just obsessed with finding something that resembles CG Laser Lime. Beautiful swatches as always.
